Mission Statement

At Rooted Heart Apothecary, our mission is to offer our community high-quality, restorative herbal products crafted with care and intention.  Every step of our process is thoughtfully taken to ensure we use only the best ingredients that you can feel good about.  Ones that you can understand and trust.  We pay attention to the little details (which are big details in the end!): from the locally sourced, grass-fed tallow right here in our home state, Pennsylvania.  Down to gathering herbs from organic, sustainable growers who tend the land with intention and love.  If the herbs aren't available at these farms, we don't purchase them elsewhere.  We've even started growing our own herbs to make sure we always have them available and know they come from a trusted source.  Regarding tallow, there's so much more to the animal other than their meat, which is why we work with farms that feel the same way we do about honoring all parts of the animal. Even our packaging is chosen with care, using recycled materials from our shipments whenever possible.

Rooted Heart Apothecary is built on heart-centered mindfulness and everything we create is infused with love and respect for the natural world.  We are committed to making affordable, clean, and effective remedies available to the community we serve.  We're here to offer remedies that reconnect you, not only to your body, but to your roots and the rhythms of nature.

Energetics in Herbalism

Energetics play a major role in every formula we create.  Whether it be the cooling herbs that go into our Sol Refresh Tea Blend or the warming herbs in our Winter Guardian Tea Blend, we truly take our time with each of our products.  Each creation is a reflection of how we envision the herbs to support the purpose we're aiming to fulfill.  It truly has profound effects on healing and how the herbs work together synergistically in the body when you consider the energetics of the plants themselves and us as human beings.  For example, many people run hot and that doesn't just mean in the temperature of your body or how easily you sweat.  It can also be your temperament or how you carry yourself day to day.  If you're hot headed and angry at the slightest inconvenience, this can be a sign of excessive heat in your body.  Taking this into consideration with an herbal formulation, we would focus on cooling herbs.  If we felt a warming herb would work best, we would offset that with additional cooling herbs.  There are many layers to this other than warming and cooling aspects.  We have to look at the whole person, their day to day living, their diet, their lifestyle, their history emotionally and physically, and best match the herbs to the whole person's full picture.

This idea of energetics was not something we came up with on our own.  This is rooted in many traditional herbal cultures spanning back thousands of years, such as in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and now Western Herbalism.  One of our wonderful teachers along our journey, Kat Maier, wrote a book all about energetics in herbalism and it has had a profound effect on our journey as herbalists and owners of Rooted Heart Apothecary.   We felt it pertinent to share Kat Maier's book, so others have access to the knowledge on their own path to herbalism.  To understand more about yourself and how the herbs can play a role in your life, please use the link below to check out Kat Maier's web page and learn more about Energetics in herbalism.
